Our Mission: When All Else Fails, We Connect.
The Palm Beach District Amateur Radio Emergency Service (PBD ARES), call sign W4PBC, is an all-volunteer organization of licensed amateur radio operators. We are dedicated to providing essential, reliable, and professional emergency communications when conventional systems fail.
As a unit of the ARRL Southern Florida Section, we serve as the primary communications backup for Palm Beach County in the event of an emergency.
Who We Serve
We provide our services free of charge to our partner agencies and the public. We are trained and prepared to support:
- Partner Agencies: We work directly with critical response organizations, including the American Red Cross, FEMA, the Salvation Army, and the National Weather Service.
- Local Government & NGOs: We assist Palm Beach County agencies, local municipalities, hospitals, and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with their emergency communication needs.
What We Do
Our services are focused on two key areas: emergency preparedness and community support.
- Emergency Communications: Our primary mission is to ensure that vital information can be relayed during a hurricane, flood, or other disaster. Our members are skilled in various communication methods, including digital modes, VHF/UHF, and repeater operations, ensuring a resilient network.
- Public Service Events: We also provide tactical communication support for non-emergency public events. You will find our members assisting with coordination and logistics at walk-a-thons, bike-a-thons, parades, and other community fund-raising events.
Our Team
We are your neighbors. PBD ARES is composed of dedicated individuals who demonstrate a strong desire to serve their communities in times of need. We are a diverse group of professionals, hobbyists, and technical specialists united by our passion for amateur radio and public service.
